Electrical Materials Buyer Job Description

Chalfont Electrical Services are looking to appoint an experienced, commercially aware and proactive buyer to join their growing team based in the desirable location of Marylebone, London. The successful candidate would report directly to the senior management team and take full control of the buying activities, helping to develop the position themselves.

Reporting to senior management, this role is busy, varied and demands a strong, solid background as a materials buyer gained with an electrical contractor, alternatively the candidate will have experience of working in the electrical wholesaler environment, to ensure you hit the ground running and make a difference from the start. Following the implementation of a project management software, the candidate will have the opportunity to develop the company’s workflows to ensure the most efficient practices are being followed.

Chalfont work alongside a number of exciting clients, working to deliver first class electrical design and installations in the commercial and high-end residential sectors. Chalfont have a fantastic supply-chain of work for the near future, and are looking to expand further with the assistance of a young, energetic team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Purchase materials, goods, and services from a variety of Electrical suppliers, working alongside contract managers and senior electricians to ensure the prompt delivery of materials to site.
  • Work closely with the site level teams to efficiently manage the day-to-day ordering of materials
  • Source materials and negotiate best price with suppliers.
  • Monitor invoices for any price discrepancies and negotiate credits with suppliers.
  • Input orders onto project management software, including uploading invoices and other information
  • Ensure efficient and professional impression of the business externally.
  • Develop the company’s use of project management software to maximise efficiency.
  • Actively seek out new suppliers and build relationships with them.
  • Manage all of this within company processes, systems, and databases, along with maintaining records of purchases, pricing, item library, and other important data.
  • To provide general support and administrative assistance in procurement activities
  • Assist in the estimation of materials costs during the tendering and estimating stages.

Essential Skills:

  • A broad knowledge of electrical installations and electrical components.
  • Computer literate, including Microsoft Office and Project Management software.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Time Management skills with a recognition of the importance of delivery dates.
  • Problem solving skills.
  • Accurate and precise attention to detail.
  • Ability to work well with management and staff at all levels.
  • Organised team player with ability to work independently.
  • Ambitious and pro-active to develop the role.

Experience Required:

  • Experience in construction procurement with a contractor.

OR

  • Experience in the electrical wholesaler business.

The role is full-time, working 7:30am – 4:30pm Monday to Friday.

On offer to the successful candidate is a salary range of £25,000 – £45,000 per annum dependent on experience and expertise.
